The Fall 2004 20/20 Screenwriting Contest
Fall 2004 20/20 Contest Update

Please note that the Spring 2005 20/20 Contest, which begins February 20th, will be undergoing a change in format, so stay tuned to the site for more details.

Before we let you know the winners of the first round of the contest, we thought you might enjoy these fun facts about the Fall 2004 20/20 Contest.

Of the 11 states NOT represented last time around– Utah, North Dakota, Montana, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, West Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, Delaware, Connecticut– we got scripts this time from Utah, Connecticut, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Delaware. Hey, if we can regularly get scripts from Wyoming and Alaska, there’s no reason why you writers in North Dakota, Montana, Arkansas, Louisiana and Alabama can’t chime in, too.

But our real growth seems to be international. New foreign countries represented [besides Britain, Canada and France] are: Thailand, Australia, Japan, Ireland, Cyprus, Russia and the Philippines.

The most scripts sent in by any one person was seven, far surpassing the previous record of four.

We received the most scripts on Oct. 21st, the day after the contest ended– 46 in one day! By the way, this was why we were so late in getting everything read and posted.

The most interesting place in the US we received a script from: Mystic, CT [site of the Julia Roberts flick, Mystic Pizza]

Last time we had 311 entries. This time we had 353 entries, which is a 13.5% increase. The percentage of scripts we sent to the second round dropped slightly [we’re getting tougher in our old age] to 17.3%. This year, the competition was tougher than ever, so the writers below receive our sincerest congratulations on their hard-earned wins– of course, they’ve still got two more rounds to go before they receive agents.

And thanks to everyone who entered– you’ve made this our best contest yet!

Your 20/20 Team,

Bonnie, Sandi, Matt and Andy
